I woke up this morning to find Google has now added a new feature, The google everything side bar:scowl:
attachment.php

They did this a few months ago, I was randomly selected as a test subject. It was a easy fix to get rid of of the crappy side bar, by deleting a cookie google impregnated my browser with.

Now as of today they are rolling it out as a official part of the google experience.
Their is no cookie installed and their is no option to disable it. As of now the only way to get rid of it is by installing a script or a plugin for firefox or opera.
Or you can go to your google search preferences and choose one of the more obscure languages that have not been ruined yet. I'm using pirate as my language.

Has any body noticed this yet? What do you think about it?

I personally hate it. I'm shocked that they did not make this new feature as a optional choice
I always admired google for having a clean and clutter free search page, full of well picked search results.
If I wanted my screen cluttered with extra crap that I didn't need, I would use bing.

It might not go away completely, but clicking "^Fewer" makes it quite small, and only thing else showing for me is "Something Different" which is just a short list of similar searches. Also try clicking the "^Hide Search Tools" button. Hope this helps.

I just expanded the list all the way in the photo. Just to show how annoying it could be.
I guess it does not bother you that much? I wish it was no big deal for me. I don't know why I'm so annoyed at it. Guess I'm just old and don't like changes to what I have grown so accustomed to.

I guess I also feel it's insulting. Like if I wanted more results I wold not be able to find them on my owen.

Ah, I see. It's not that it doesn't bother me, I'm just used to ignoring things that annoy me...I do agree with you though, it should be optional, and hopefully Google will see that people don't like it being thrust upon them like this and give the option to do away with it completely.

I'm not liking it so far. Getting close to nuking it with element hider for adblock plus.

saw this first at school and thought wtf? must be some weird settings the teacher put on...
anyway when i got home i was pretty annoyed when i realised that it was all of google... i hate it

Yeah, they've been testing this out for a while. When I first saw it on my computer during the test phase I thought "Wtf is this".
Then I heard on the radio a month or two later that this was an official revamp of Google.
At the moment, I'm not liking it one bit.

I do remember testing this several months ago. I got rid of it within minutes  Needless to say I don't like it :p

They should probably just add a dropdown option "When" and "Where" along the top-most edge, instead of putting it at the edge - such a waste of screen real estate.

They want to make it look like bing... Sad really, since tho whole reason I use google and not bing, is because of the minimalism, speed, and configurability. Once they start cluttering up the screen with useless buttons and stupid background wallpapers, I have no reason to want to use google over bing.

I've actually been using altavista a lot lately... Seems to be pretty good. They don't give you useless results either. None of that "these terms only appear in links pointing to this page.

Really sad when you think about it.
When bing entered the search market. They did everything possible to differentiate themselves from google. One of the biggest complaints against bing, was that it appeared to be too cluttered.
Now google is copying bing.

What I don't get is that most of the options on the side, have always been available in the upper left. In fact they are still there. Now when I want to search for a news item, I have two buttons I can click.

I'm not the only one that was upset with this. If you read googles forums, you will see a huge number of people who were also upset with this choice.

Another complaint, I have against google. Is their auto update engine that is installed with chrome, earth, picasa. Why do I need a separate program that runs continuously in the background. Even when no google program is active?

Anyway I have been using altavista lately. I'm surprised at it's performance. It does a pretty good job. I think I may just continue supporting them by using them as my default.

I hate it, why do they feel the need to jack with google so much. It works fine as it was, no bs, no frills, no 20 second load time...

Get rid of it google, please!

20 seconds load time? man, get a connection, it's html, it should load as fast as always!

He's saying that Google didn't take 20 seconds to load, he was probably referring to Bing's loading time, due to superfluous crap on it's homepage and search results...which are always crappy.
