Good goggles to buy?..

Hello all,
I'm pretty new here and decided to get some answers from the people that know what there talking about. My first question is at what power should I start wearing safety goggles, for example at 50mw or 100mw? My other question is what is some good inexpensive safety goggles to buy when I'm using a laser?

Normally you should start at 5mW.

But, If you're not using your lasers for burning, and you use it responsibly (not pointing it at mirrors or shiny surfaces), then you are ok if your lasers are under 100mW.

For green to blu-ray (532 to 405nm), take a look at www.o-like.com and www.dragonlasers.com, they are around $25 w/o shipping. They also sell some for red and IR, but those are around $30 to $40 w/o shipping.

I think the o-like 532 to 370nm are $31 with shipping, I bought a pair recently.

To be honest, you won't get damage from looking at the dot, but you can get damaged easily if you accidntaly touch a mirror, window, metal, or any other reflective material. This is why starting from 5mW you should always wear them. the more power the bigger the damage you will get, but you WILL get damage anyway.

You can find a cheap goggles for bluray and green on focalprice for 8$. I've tested them at 200mW of both colors and they do the trick. For red lasers, you can find them on almost any laser store like O-like, however those will cost you a bit more.

If you plan on buying other lasers that are of different colors BESIDE the usual RED, GREEN, & BR, & you have the cash, get a set of ML-7's from OEM LASER SYSTEMS. Kinda pricey though, ($156.00 USD) shipped ^^ rob

I appreciate the help guys, I have a green DX true 30mw and a green DX 5mw already. I have gotten used to them and been researching some and I think it's time for an upgrade. I am actually looking at a Rayfoss 150mw Rayfoss . I know it's a cheapy but I want something that burns so I can get used to it. Here in a few months I'll dish out the big bucks and get a reputable laser.

You guys think that is pretty good or should I go with the 200mw from rayfoss? I know a lot of you will recommend something else but like I said want a cheapy for now until i actually get ready for a big upgrade. I want to stick with in the $100-$160 price range for now. Which I know I cant expect a lot from that but I know yah will be able to recommend something from there or from another site. They also have to be able to ship to the U.S. I E-mailed Rayfoss and they said the replace the shipping label with 1mw so it will pass through customs. So any help here would be appreciated, thanks for taking the time to help this noob

if you want 150mW get the waterproof ones. They work great and they are indeed waterproof! If you gonna get a focusable torch, save 20$ more and get the 200mW version. Keep in mind that about a 20% of the stated output is always IR on rayfoss.com
