Hi everyone,

I recently bought the GH04850B2G (488nm) and the GH05030C2LM (505nm)
After hooking the 505 diode to my driver according to the specsheet the LD didn't turn on
Since I knew that this diode is case positive I just switched the negative feed to the other insulated pin and it worked
Fortunately I did not blew the diode thanks to the PD

Now I'm wondering if the GH04850B2G specsheet might be faulty too, help would be appreciated! :D

488 is case neutral as far as i know.
Update: Just checked it and yes, its case neutral.

Most of the Sharp 505nm diodes sold on eBay are case positive. All of the 490nm Sharp diodes I have seen are case neutral. These diodes can end up anywhere from 486.5nm to 492nm. That isn't a lot of difference, but at these wavelengths it can make a dramatic difference in the color.

Sharps datasheets for the 485nm shows the pins from the top (their outlines are broken lines) and not looked from the pin side. So you have to flip them, but the pin numbers on the right are flipped too. Some how confusing....

Sharp isn't the only manufacturer to do this. It can be confusing if you don't look carefully at the illustration.

yes that's very true.
I read some old threads about people who own the 0sram 488 and they usually claim it is like a pure blue with no hint of green it.
After firing up my diode I knew this was not the case with mine.
So I guess my diode ended up to being more in the 490-range.
It's truly an amazing color, very hard to describe!
Right on the edge between blue and green, but still leaning towards slightly more to the blue part of the spectrum!

I have an earlier Sharp diode in a build that does 493nm. It looks right in the middle between blue and green........at least to my eyes. Though these wavelengths can look very different, it is not as easy to capture that with a camera. I do have a single line argon to compare these to. But, the spectrometer measurement is quite accurate and tells me most of what I need to know.

If shipping costs were less, i would have sent you some of my 488's for spectro test. I have both blue and green-looking lasers.

Anytime you feel like knowing for sure, send me a PM and I will give you my address. Of course, I won't charge you to measure any of your lasers. But, you will have to pay shipping both ways.

Yep, my osram plt5-488 is definitely bluer than any of these sharp diodes.

"bluest" of the sharp diodes vs plt5-488

and also including the "greenest" of the sharp diodes:
