hey guys i have a GGW red diode from the bluray sled.
after searching the forum for "ggw red diode"etc i didnt find anything.
so does anyone here know? i suspect it to be over 110mA,
cheers guys

ok thanks yeah the reason was i didnt really know its name. as i didnt buy it i got it free. anyhow thanks for the info

Hey Terbo,

Yeah the LCC is very durable. I've read others like the LCC more than the LOC diodes as they both have high power outputs but the LCC obviously has the closed can, protects the die and microscopic wires more. You can push both up to around 420mA. Some go up to 450mA with nice heat sinks.

Yup... I'm running mine at 420ma... but Dave has one sitting at ~500ma... so they can be pushed as long as they have a nice heat sink around them.

I routinely run them at 425mA. I have one that has been run at 500mA for several months now.

Peace,
dave

*EDIT** -- Bob beat me :gj:

Is there any significant difference between the LOC and LCC diodes in terms of current handling or performance? As far as I understood the main difference is just the case, with the actual dies being very similar.

I've pushed them to a bit over 400 mA without any problem, besides one LOC broke into open circuit at moderate current (300-350 mA), probably a reflection that broke a bond wire or something similar.

How much power do you get at 500 mA?

I do not remember where the knee appeares with the LOC. There are plenty of graphs of the LOC in this forum .

The knee appeared at 520mA with my LCC, (YMMV) so I backed it down 20mA (to ensure it stayed below the knee) and set it there. The knee could show up at lower or higher currents depending on the individual diode. If you cannot test for IP/OP to find the knee of your particualr diode, you should opt for the more conservative currents stated. Unless, of course, you are willing to replace blown diodes ;)

With Jayrob's 650-G-1 lens, I get 350mW out of the laser. The output is the same with Jayrob's Merideth for AixiZ modification lens. The laser is in a Kryton Groove so it is powered by an 18650 battery (W/ a V3 flexdrive)

Peace,
dave
