I know this has been convered and the 6X diodes are "old news", but I'm excited and besides I took a few nice pics which someone might find useful.

I really took my time harvesting the diodes from this sled, determined not to have any disasters. It's a nice sled, love the PBS cubes, dichros and rare earth magnets, lots of useful stuff in this one.

Thanks to Dave for his informative posts I knew where to find the 405nm diode. Extracted the 650 and the 808 while I was at it.

Does anyone know anything about the ice-block looking optic directly infront of the 405? I can't figure it out... looks like a beam splitter perhaps?

I checked for the purported square barcode marking on the diode to make sure it was a genuine 6X.

After pressing into an aixiz module with a nice glass lens coated for 405 I pressed the whole module into an aluminium heatsink I have and fired it up with 192mA. It LIVES!

Nice job Jupiter!

The, "Ice-Block", (nice description BTW! :D ), does a bit of beam shaping. Try shining your new 6x beam through it. and you should see it bcome distorted into a line, IIRC.

Thanks qumefox, I've been getting it wrong. 780nm is closer to red, makes sense.
