Getting X100, safety questions

LazerGuy said:
Great decision to get the Alpha, I got a 125mW one yesterday, and I coudn't have been more pleased. Be sure to post a review. There's not that many people with them here (like maxkillz said) so it would be great to have several reviews to compare the Alphas.

My A-125 is also overspec, 135mW avg. and 150mw peak. Nova will never let you down!
since you have one you should do a review too :P

I believe he did a review, I remember reading a review of an Alpha recently.

Ah I found it :P nvm I read that yesterday I think ;D my memory isn't the greatest

How much would it cost to check how over spec'd mine is when I get it? What are some well known companies for doing this?

I read that review too. I'm considering doing a video review and putting it on YouTube and putting the link in the reviews section. What do you guys think? I have 7-10 business to decide though, I'm guessing that's how long shipping is from Toronto to Pennsylvania. I'm going to put in the order as soon as I finish writing this post.

Nova will give you the specs when you get it, otherwise if you want it metered yourself and don't have a laser power meter you can ask one of the trusted members here who has one if they will meter it for you.

they give you a paper with the power level, and it should take a lot less than 7-10 days, I'm in Michigan and my friend here got it in 4 days including the weekend. Though NOVAlasers is only like a 4 hour drive from Detroit :P

Oh they give you the paper, nice!  I don't need it metered then.

Wow, that's fast.  No wonder shipping is 20 dollars!

It turns out you need to be 18 to order, so I had to wait until my mom got home to order it anyway, but I have a question before I order:

Those of you familiar with Nova Lasers, do you know if you can use your member ship and light years  that come with the laser on the same purchase as the laser?  I want to get the Laser Surface Materials Kit that comes with fiber optic fibers, defraction grating slides, chrome sphere, coated paper, neon effects paper, defraction effects papers, 13 black, 3 clear, and 10 colored balloons, and the instruction manual (http://www.novalasers.com/NOVAstore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=5&idproduct=44) for 20 dollars, 17.00 member price  5.00 dollars shipping, totals about 10 dollars with light years from laser.  But do I have to order separate to get that price?

Oh, and does anyone know where to get cheap (less than 20 dollars) safety glasses? I'll be using the ones from Nova, but I want to buy 3 or 4 cheap pair for when I do crystal demos and such.

Thanks,
Zach

shipping was free..what do you mean $20 :-? maybe since you live further away it's more or something?you need to make a separate order to use light years. shipping is $10 for me on accessories :o.

you won't find good safety glasses for less than $20, at least not that I could find. sorry if my answers seem out of order I answer as I read ;D

Well it says I think Airmail something is free for items marked free or something, but at checkout it said 30 bucks for shipping of laser and safety glasses. I don't really know I didn't see it myself. I don't really see why shipping would be different, we are both about the same distance from Toronto. Maybe they were running a special or something. It showed 5.00 for me on the X series optics and holder I think, I guess they change from item to item. I don't know, whatever happens happens. Come hell or high water I am getting this laser!

Yeah I figured that's how it would be. I'll put them in in separate orders, as I don't need the optics right away, although I'd like to have them if I do a video review, just to review the optics kit as well. I'm actually really glad that you can't get a discount on the glasses, cause what would probably happen is the laser would get here before the glasses and I'd be tempted to play with it before my glasses got here. ;)

Hmm... I'll see if I can find used ones or something somewhere maybe, else only one person gets a demo at a time. ;)

We tried to order it a few hours ago and the card kept getting declined. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to contact customer support. Yet another day I'll go laserless... :'(

maybe somethings being entered wrong, card type, billing address, ect?

pic of the laser itself so you can see the actual size.

night shot. that yellowish thing is the moon just to give you an idea how bright the beam is. he only let me play with it for 5 minutes before he wanted it back :'( we already went through at least 30 pairs of lithum e2's (he bought them all ;D) no way I could ever afford to use up batteries that quick

I don't know, we tried 3 or 4 times, and once with another card.  I'll see what support says.

That's a little bigger than I thought, not by much though.  And to be honest with you I am a fan of big, heavy, solid electronics. And from what I hear, that's exactly what this laser is! :)  Looks like a good size for me.  Is the outer body of it made of plastic or metal?  Just curious, I cant really tell from looking at it.

I'm thinking of getting a 6 pack of rechargeable lithiums and charger, 2 for in the laser, 2 in the case, and 2 charging.

it metal for sure, it's way too heavy to be made of plastic. It's very solid and feels great in the hand. I found out that it doesn't need the key in it to work you just need to turn it to green and it will work without the key ;D

no more pics, he took it home  :'(

as for the batteries I think I saw a pack of like 10 AA and 2 AAA enloops with C and D adapters and a charger at costco for like $20. seems like a good deal.

Do you mean that you can put it in, turn it, and pull it out and it will work, or that the keyswitch is fake?

key switch works just put it in turn and gently pull it out, it's made of plastic so I don't know how sturdy it is

Oh at first I thought you meant it was fake, I was going to say...  It's just made for basic safety I guess, it's not a bank vault with a million dollars in it or anything.  That's nice that you can take it out though so it doesn't get unbalanced and hard to aim with 20 keys hanging off the back of it.

Found some goggles for 10 bucks, can you tell me if they are legit. http://www.fundeals4u.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=TWUVXS1169&Click=532
