Hmmm...Long snout on that MXDL mod....

Did you do a build report..I'd love to read it!

Larry

Ah you noticed :).....well I am not finished yet, I have a wire wound pot on its way to me that will go inside. Turning the extension will turn down the power to the laser to help with focusing......

UPDATE, I said somewhere on the forum that I was not interested in burning things.......well, I took this into work today, spent a lot of time lighting cigars and making pencils smoke, it wowed a lot of people.

I have turned into a big kid, who cannot pass a dark object without giving it a squirt of red. :)

As I have done all I can on this build I thought I would update the thread....I wanted to try having a pot inside this to adjust the output, but when it arrived I found that all the bits wouldn't quite fit:(....Anyhooo The main difference from any other burner you will see here is the bezel on the focus to keep fingers out of the beam when fine tuning....,Photo's follow.

In bits

Nice pics Rog,

How did you make - "bezel on the focus to keep fingers out of the beam when fine tuning"?

thanx

That's a tidy looking tool you have there Rog. Nice breakdown review you've done there with the photos too. :)

The bezel was from a 1/4" jackplug socket all I had to do was reduce the outside diameter to go inside the plastic extension tube. There was a recess on one side that was a perfect fit on the lens housing, I carefully stuck it in place with superglue.
I drilled and tapped it 3mm for the little cap screw, as it turns out (no pun intended:)) it isn't really required.

It does make the burner very easy to fine focus as I don't interupt the beam when turning it. in fact what I do is hold the bezel still and rotate the torch.

Regards rog8811

*Edit* Jackplug socket is 3.5mm not 1/4" as stated above......doesn't seem to help find one on the web though.....

Jack plug socket... [smiley=huh.gif]

Got a link or example to what that came from? I'd love to make that for my mini-Dorcy build! Google is not coming up with much on those search terms, just a bunch of stereo headphone jack stuff.
