Galaxy S7 Edge vs LG G5 vs Galaxy Note 6

So I have reached that 2 year milestone where I can upgrade my phone :drool:

The galaxy s7 edge and the lg g5 are out already and are extremely tempting but I think I am holding out for the Note 6. I currently have an S5 and it is the first phone I have ever owned that hasn't slowed down to the point it becomes almost unusable after 2 years.

I do like how LG is thinking outside the box but I don't feel that there are enough add ons out there that are extremely useful and are worth picking the phone for.

What have you guys decided if your in the market and why?

There's little benefit the Edge screens, they are cool for a short while, but every single person I know who has an edge phone doesn't even really use them, and most said they prefer regular non edge screen phones now.

My vote would be for the Galaxy S7, or Note 6. S7 if you need it NOW, Note 6 if you can wait.

Had the Galaxy S5, now have Note 5. Both have served me well. Definitely enjoy the extra screen real estate on the Notes. Note 5 is very smooth in operation I almost never find myself waiting for anything, and the Spen is useful once in blue moon.

Also either samsung phone will pair with the gear VR, which is an amazing accessory IMO.

Glad Samsung has taken it's collective head out of it's @$$ and put back waterproofing and micro SD slots.

Edit: Any samsung phone is also going to be way way easier to buy accessories for.

I was up in the air about the edge because I have always wondered how you can get a case to really protect it. I am in no rush so the Note is looking more and more like the winner for me. Also I was really upset when the s6 came out with no removable batter, no sd slots, and no waterproofing.... I guess they listen. I think those features are key points that set it apart from the iphone.

I haven't tried the VR gear, to be honest I didn't think it would be even worth trying. Not that I wouldn't like it, but since it is their first push for it I thought it wouldn't be that good. What do you do the most with it?

There isn't much to do with it except watch a bunch of 360 movies, and pictures. There are some free games too, but they don't interest me.

If you can get it free as part of a bundle with phone it's definitely worth it. My use has been mostly for netflix I think, until novelty wore off. Now just videos and pictures.

A particularly good use for it would be in travel, or for short breaks... for example next time I have a long flight I'll bring it with me to watch video on a simulated 80" screen in simulated privacy.

IMO, at $100, it's worth the experience to get the gear vr if you have a compatible phone already. Samsung and Oculus have put a lot of effort into it, and it's still a rudimentary, but already polished experience.

I also have the S5. I'm looking at the G5 because screw companies that make it impossible to remove the battery without tools. I've also considered going back to a normal phone. I hardly use the majority of the things a dumb phone offers and the data plans are a rip off.

From the reviews I've watched/read, the S7 really seems to be one of the best phones, if not the best out there right now. You get an incredible dual sensor camera, an OLED screen and a micro sd card to expand your storage for cheap. What else would you want on a phone?

I kind of get that you prefer a removable battery, but since most people get a new phone every 2-3 years, why is there such need for it to be swapped easy? They easily last long enough if you're switching that often. Then in the end, if a swap would be necessary for whatever reason, taking it apart and putting it back together takes 30 minutes tops. I've done it several times with my iPhone 5 and my dad's Nokia, wasn't all that hard.

I prefer to instantly be able to remove the battery without tools. That would decrease the chance of a problem happening if you dropped it in water by a lot. Plus that makes it easier to swap out the battery if the installed one is about dead. Yes, you can get those external packs. You have to deal with a cable and the pack at the end of it though.

Pretty much all manufacturers are moving away from easily removable batteries.

So if you must have that feature that's gonna limit your choices a lot.

The S7 at least is actually rather waterpoof... and from experience I can tell you the Note 5 and a 3 year old S5 have both survived being dunked, and certainly being on me when I got soaking wet in rain.

I've got the S7, and so far it's been great. I had thought about the edge, or even waiting on the new Note, but in reality, they are just too large for me to carry comfortably.

So far no problems at all with battery life, in fact, the only problem I've had is with a glass screen protecter that I had put on.
If you buy a screen protecter, be sure fits the slight contours at the side edges, because even though this isn't the edge, the screen curves slightly.

Why bother with a screen protector at all? The glass on them is damn near scratch proof already. Everyone's different, but really for most people just a thin rubbery case is a perfect solution.

Aside from very minor blemishes all of my phones look close to new, after years of use... And I've dropped them quite a few times, and do carry them in pants pocket.

The note is not quite as pocket friendly, true, but the added screen size really helps with emails, and browsibg. Also depends on hand size... IMO you should be able operate phone one handed... If you can't, it's too big for you.
