Fun times in SC - storm related

The Summer has been quiet hot and dry. There was very little rain for about 5 months putting the area into a dry spell. Then about 10 days ago is got cloudy and started raining on and off. There has been very little sun since then. Then comes the hurricane. Yesterday was fairly windy with a decent amount of rain. Then it calmed down until about 2 AM. The real high winds and heavy rain lasted until about 10:30 AM.

Power went out around 10:45 AM but has since been restored. No water. The company said the tower servicing my area is empty. Either people used it up or there is a broke line. There's no way they could have filled the tower back up unless there was a generator anyway. Pictures and some video will come later. I'm about to check out a road that is supposedly washed out near me.

I sometimes hope for something like that to happen over here. Just to have no overly bright street lights ruining the view when playing with my lasers. Last time the power went out here was like 10 years ago.

That really sucks being without water, I am prepared for a power outage but I can never be prepared enough for the damn water outage, most people don't realize that the average person uses 80 or more gallons a day. Most of the water districs here don't have water towers, they do have pumping stations, there is a big water tower in the nearest city (Marysville WA) but it doesn't cover my area.

10 years with power!!! I am guessing the same for water. Do they allow Americans in your country? Maybe I could loose my passport and be a refugee. That reminds me it's time to renew my passport, I hope they let me renew it, I owe the government some money that I don't have.

The crazy thing is it is more the massive low pressure over Florida that has dragged the jet stream all the way down to the southern tip of Florida that is causing most of the rain and not the hurricane itself. Then there is all the wind coming off of the Atlantic due to the low pressure inland and the top spin of Joaquin. Joaquin is way, way out to sea though.

This is the lot next to mine. I have a feeling nothing will probably be built there.

I drove through this spot every day for work during my last few years of ADAF time.

Near the Wal-Mart. I think they may need to improve the draining.

Yes, I couldn't believe the amount of rain and wind that was likely caused be effects and not the hurricane itself.

LOL, every time it goes out here I do just that, lots of tree branches and fools crashing into poles around here.

Now I have to fire up the old computer or dig out my back up drive and see if I can find any power out videos I made.

I have a bunch of cell phone pics of Biloxi after Katrina, it was wild in New Orleans, miles on the highway with everything blacked out, like an apocalypse. Bulldozers pushed cars under the bridges to clear the road.

WOW This is a lot worse than I thought.
I'm East of Atlanta and we had rain for a week, so much that mushrooms are actually popping up in the yard, anyway I hear that dams are bursting and flooding continues from all the runoff, it's amazing how even after the rain stops flooding continues, who would have thought you would need a life vest in your house.
I hope people get out of the way in time rather than trying to ride it out.

I hope that all the members here, their family, friends and loved ones all stay safe. Natural disasters take a heavy physical and mental toll on all involved
When I was 9 years old our home was in 15 feet of flood water. It is water but it also has mud, gasoline, septic tank overflow, fuel oil and so on in it. When the water went away there was 4 feet of mud in the basement. I still remember my Mom & Dad in the house with garden hoses washing the gunk of the ceiling and walls. Then the whole house had to be gutted to the framing and even the electric was all torn out. They both aged 10 years over night Everything has to be thrown away except glassware and metal pots and pans because the chemicals and waste in the water can seep into it. Even those things have to be boiled in bleach water. So anybody that has ever been affected by a natural disaster, I am very sorry for you!
