Anyone know if I can put the 473nm module into a handheld build? If so, I might pick this up I've been casually looking for a 473nm, but mostly in portable form - I haven't messed with lab-style lasers much, so no idea how they mount the laser module and such, what the input power is, etc.

In a word: no.

I have one of the 532nm heads, this is what the inside looks like

I have a 473 and I expect it will look the same. Typically in lab setups you won't see everything compact like you do in handhelds.

Edit: to clarify, I had these pics handy. I'm away from where the 473 is until the weekend, I would have shown that instead. 99.9% sure it will be the same optical setup as the green.

Whoa that is pretty cool actually, although it looks like the Nd:YAG and KTP crystal are the very first optic in the pathway. Curious to see what the other optics in that chain are doing. Thanks for sharing the pics

I have pictures of the insides of my 473. It isn’t that dissimilar from the 532nm above.

The B&W TEK 473nm lab lasers use a 2.4 watt pump diode to get 10 mW of 473nm laser light. I can only imagine the pump power on this 250 mW one. I would not attempt to put that into a handheld unit.

Hey Paul, drinking spirits and smoking are less addictive than this hobby. The only reason that I stay committed, is because of nicotine. I indulge in the hobby between smokes. Well, to be honest, the beams do look awsome in the smoke

Yeah, I've been a smoker for over 50 years. Now I only smoke one cigarette a day. I could quite anytime, but it helps with moving my bowels. Nicotine is a parasympathomimetic which causes smooth muscles to contract. Just like the ones in your intestines.
