I've got a new Key chain kit that uses a CR2 battery! (Primary, or rechargeable)

This nice metal host is heavy duty, and not thin metal. It is the same length as my other tiny Key Chain build that uses a 10280 battery...

The smaller (in diameter) Key Chain kit (10280 battery), is shown here:

This new kit uses a CR2 battery for a very nice supply considering how small it is! You also have the option of using a Primary, or a Rechargeable!

For a 445 build, you can get your diode pre-installed into an AixiZ module with lead wires soldered on from daguin or DTR.






Two build styles shown below...

Style 1, and style 2. I am offering either style heatsink with the kit. Your choice! :)

I'm going to offer this as a Host/heatsink kit, but not a 'Hot' option with driver installed.

You will need a version 4 FlexDrive (or later, as long as the newer version is 9mm X 12mm or smaller)




Below, is a detailed, step by step picture tutorial of how this build is done.

Other building methods would work too, but here I show the way that I did it. And you can use this first post as a tutorial.

Some building skill recommended - This is a 'tight' little build, but really not that bad if you follow this tutorial carefully. It is well worth the effort! :)

Notice the wires at the diode pins are bent over to make a little more room, as you have seen on some of my other builds as well.
(wires bent, not pins) Use fine wire and 1/16" heat shrink tubing...

Tip: If getting ground from the diode, you may want to ‘pinch’ a stripped wire between the heatsink and host upon final assembly…

For style 2:

I have another heatsink design for this build. This is Igor's heatsink design that I will offer as a choice in this build kit. (leave it to Igor to improve my design) :gj:

I will offer both designs because some may be more comfortable with the one or the other building styles.

With style 1, you will be using fine wire to make the driver connections.

With style 2, you will be connecting your FlexDrive directly to the diode pins... (and not using the round circuit board in the build)

So now you have a choice of how you want to assemble this Key Chain CR2 build! :)

The advantages of the style 2 build, are this:

* Better contact from the heatsink to the host, because you will tighten the retaining ring against the heatsink. (more heatsink mass as well)
* Not having to de-solder the components off of the stock board. (but I would say more difficult to solder the driver directly to the pins)


Tips for style 2:

* Make sure the driver is fixed solid. Maybe with some glue to the module, as well as some hard foam or some other material on the sides to keep it from pushing side to side. It must be pressing against the module, not the pins. Make sure nothing is 'shorting' to the module or heatsink.
* Cut the tail spring shorter to lessen the pressure it would put against the driver...
* With style 2, there will just be enough room for a 'shorter' RCR2 rechargeable battery. (the 3.6/4.2 or the 3.7/4.2 ones will work)
The 3.0/3.6 ones are a little longer for some reason. I don't recommend those for style 2...
* You will solder a small contact point to the driver. Do this part, taking up as little room as possible. Perhaps by just a thin wire soldered through the FlexDrive positive input, and bent over the edge of the board. That is where your battery positive will make contact.
* The negative contact to the FlexDrive will come from the diode case pin. If it's a red build, then this will be automatic, since the diode case pin, is the diode negative, and will be connected to the driver. With a blu-ray build, you will simply solder the diode case pin to the diode negative pin, and then connect to the driver. This is fine for a FlexDrive, since both negative contact points on the FlexDrive are continuous...






Shortest Batteries:

Buy these ones:
RCR2 Unprotected Rechargeable Lithium Battery

They are the shortest I believe...

My personal build:

GGW 6X diode at 188mA's. It is giving 236mW's. (405-G-1)

Battery current draw - 340mA's (800mAh CR2 rechargeable)





The kit will include:

* The host
* Nylon sheath that comes with the host
* Custom machined heatsink shown in my pictures. Style 1, or style 2. Your choice! :) (you will need a 1.5mm Allen wrench for the set screw)

And it runs off of 1x CR2, so im assuming there arent much of any limitations reguarding the 8x, if any at all?

Oh I forgot to mention that... The host comes with a CR2 primary battery.

So that will be included. I'll add that in my first post.

Now I'm not making any claims on the quality of the battery, other than it is a new battery that the host comes with...


Dark, I'll invoice you in just a second...

But I want to mention that of course an 8X will work in this host, but the heatsink is not really thick and all. (but the host is thick) If used with a conservative duty, it will be fine though. (IMO)

I always use a duty cycle out of habbit. I read that Igor mentioned that this may not be always necessary, but it sure can't hurt right?

My thoughts exactly,

I have a horribly awsome habbit of only running a laser for the shortest amount of time possible, but long enough to get the job done. If i feel i will need a longer duty cycle i set current way down. But i usually cap all my lasers at 30 seconds anyways.

I think i'll run a healthy 297mA to it, and hope for the best. I bought 2 BDR's from Kendell that i have no intentions of selling on Dark Lasers. So i have a back-up i guess :D

Cant wait to see the result, sent a PM about a special request too ;)

This is how it will sit at focus using one of my 405-G-1 glass lens modifications. :D (and module flush with the custom heatsink face)
