Hi guys!

I'm going to be selling off the extra ~490nm diodes I have coming from Paul. A few people have come to me already about these diodes, and I have marked them down as reserved on the diodes they wanted...

Of the unspoken diodes from the first 20, 9 remain (and 5 more will be added once the results are in):

#...WL....mA

2 487.4 70
4 490.3 120
6 490.7 80
9 490 95
10 490.2 100
15 489.3 120
16 489.5 150
18 488.2 80
19 489.9 90
20 489.5 110
23 490.3 110
24 491.5 120
25 489.6 130

Now... I will do my best to honor requests for wavelength as these are being sold as binned diodes. But just remember two things:
-This is first come first serve.
-I can't guarantee anything on the 5 unmeasured diodes until they are measured. That includes whether or not they die during testing unexpectedly. It has happened with the 480's, so I feel it's necessary to say, no matter how small a chance it may be.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Asking:
$90 + shipping on diode #2 (487.4 @70) and #18 (488.2 @80mA)
OR
$60 + shipping on the rest (>489nm)

US shipping - 2-day priority flat rate from USPS, +$7.25
International - Varies by country, I can give you an estimate asap and an exact answer on Saturday (April 14th). Typically I see anything from $10 - $30, depending on location, insurance, & tracking.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To those buying from the USA, good news! Paul and I have worked out a way that he will ship them straight to you, so there won't be as much of a wait as having them go back to me and having me package them.

However -- internationally, I'll be sending them out once I get them back from Paul. (I get an employee discount... cheaper shipping... + more importantly I don't want to ask Paul to go through the customs forms hassle)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For anyone interested in a color comparison... I will be building mine as soon as they arrive and do a comparison between these wavelengths:

520nm
502nm
495nm
492nm
488nm (argon)
487nm
485nm
480nm
472nm
450nm

As my camera is very capable of telling the subtle difference between them. Stay tuned!

Guess I should go and order some new batteries...

You should list the wavelengths that aren't spoken for yet. There are still some great ones left and five yet to be measured.

Yup Paul, everything in the first post is what I have that isn't spoken for. Unless someone backs out.

Of the 11 you measured not listed above, you should know all the USA buyers, and I have two pending international ones that I'll be dealing with when I get the diodes back.

How do you get that wavelength accurately-can we use the phenomenon of light interference?
The work is really great - they will be selling fast

These were measured by Paul using a spectrometer, which is able to get such high accuracy. You *can* do it by hand, though there are a lot of variables the professional equipment takes out of the problem to make the measurement easier.

You can experiment and make a less accurate measurement if use a diffraction grating following this experiment:
Expm 8

However a few points,
1000 lines/mm is probably an approximation
The angle the beam hits the diffraction grating will affect the results, as does distance from the diffraction grating to the wall. The angle is the harder part to DIY

I used wave interference and computation, but the 505nm diode measured 517.47 nm an unacceptable error-I usually only discriminate by eye - that is a limitation.Out of 5 my 505nm diode has a nearly 502nm and the rest is greater than 505nm (maybe around 507nm at 200ma)
The 490nm diodes are really cool and they are between blue-green interference-finally thank you for the information provided- good luck with the sale

The lower wavelength diodes, like the 488nm ones, don't seem to have much green in them. At least to my eyes. I showed one to my daughter yesterday and she said it was her favorite color. It is a light sky, or baby, blue color.

Now, my 493nm laser looks to be right on the edge between green and blue.

A 480 nm wavelength always creates excitement for me-but my favorite color is 638nm and 470nm + high power diodes such as p73 and m07 bring satisfaction to me, although it's bad beam
- I'm looking for a cheap solution for adjusting the divergence

Howdy! As of now, is the OP up to date: Last edited 4-10?

Thanks!

I keep forgetting this thread is here. Too many irons in the fire, I guess.
