Heres my first laser build. Had this flashlight sitting around. found it on the floor on halloween. Built my own driver using lm317 and 3 ohms giving me an estimated 417mA(correct me if im wrong) with 3x 10440 batteries. All i need to do is wait for my LD and batteries. Theres an LED in there right now to rest the circuit powered by AAA batteries.

The heatsink is 1/2" spacers I found at osh, they are a little bigger then the module but have a securing screw in them, they are wedged in wtih a bunch of Arctic Silver 5.

So what do you guys think?

Ordered batteries from china will probably take a while to get here. Where can I get 10440's? radioshack, walmart, target???

Glad you got the driver working.  When I looked at your pics http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1238546083/0#14 the resistor color codes suggest you have 6 ohms instead of 3.  You might want to trim your pictures a bit, they are difficult to view :)
Good luck!

Edit: Those stripes looked red to me, but now I can see that they might actually be brown with tricky light. Anyway, you might want to double check.

That laser looks purple, your in the red laser section... Are you color blind?
:D :P

was that sarcasm? Because he stated that there was an LED in there to test it while he was waiting for his Laser Diode. :P

HAHAHA ya they are infact 1 ohm resistors, when i saw that image i saw red at first also and kinda second guessed myself, but i remember taking dmm measurements also.
