I'm really new to this forum, this will be my first in fact, and i'm looking for some opinions for parts on my first build.
I had recently watched a video on how to build a 1mW laser but i had decided that i wanted something with a little bit less power for my first build. I have some parts picked out but i still have quite a few questions. Here is the list that i had in mind.

Host: DIY C6 Host Assembly
Driver: Survival Laser Driver 530mA version
Diode: DIY 660nm Diode, Module and Focusing Ring

As for the heat sink i have no clue. I had read another forum talking about heat sinks when the diode is case negative, which this diode is. Anodized or not? What would i do to insulate the diode? Also, what should I use for a lens? Help would be really appreciated. Thanks! :thanks:

Add your location to your profile so it shows under your name. If people don't even know what country your in they are less likely to answer you and are unable to tell you the best place to buy something.

For the C6 spend the extra dollar for the drilled pill otherwise you have to keep your wires short, there is little room in a C6, I have one myself and I like it, it is very small.

Buy one of the anodized heat sinks to be sure it's isolated from the host, the host is anodized anyway so there should be no continuity from the host to the module but just to be sure, the anodized heat sink also insulates it.

For a lens use this: 635-685nm AR Coated Acrylic Lens Assembly
or the $8.60 glass lens here: https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf/home/glass-lenses
or one of these:

Hm, personally I think 530mA is a bit too high for a red diode. I'd stop at 450mA, max.

Anyhow, yeah the problem is that this driver does not have any side of it that's continuous, meaning there are components between positive input and output, and components between negative input and output.

So if your diode is not case neutral (violet and 445nm are, 650nm is not), you need to insulate that from the host, because you're using the host itself as connection between the "other side" of the battery and the driver's input.

I believe anodized heatsink will help but I am not sure how much. If you are going with a C6 host, I recommend getting either an anodized heatsink, or the one which is a few milimeters short of touching the host's pill, so the heatsink (and in it, module) is insulated from the host.

Can YOU use the search button to find an answer to the poster's question? The question is quite specific and he's just trying to solve the question the fastest way - asking. Since when is interpersonal communication forbidden on an open forum?

Either answer the question, or don't - somebody else will.
