G'day

Had a guidesman host siting around just got a 200mW module so i put the 2 together :)

Soldered a bridge across the original switch on the driver board and put the batteries in negative first cause this baby is a case positive jobby.

Here's the module i used:

200mW 532nm 3.7V-4.2V /Laser Diode Module/Green Laser (eBay item 250760669237 end time 19-Jul-11 19:59:17 AEST) : Business Industrial

They claim 200mW with +/- 10% (+/- 20mW) so its well inside the tolerance at max out put of 188mW.

Here's my plan before i built it:

had it on the Laserbee and it peaked at 188mW and sat at 175mW quite comfortably.

This module has a pot on it, what would be considered a safe maximum output for this module?
Could i push it to ~200mW with a pot adjustment and still have a long life?

Also, is there some sort of ring (like a focus ring but it doesn't have to be functional, kinda " just for looks") that i can screw onto the exposed thread at the end of the module to make it look a little bit cleaner?

Cheers!

What is the thread size for the front of the module... I could machine you a cover plate for that if you need one.

As for the driver, I wouldn't touch it if I was you.... but that's just me.

Nice job Mitch! Looks great!
I also really liked the way those 532nm brass modules look in the hotlights host, something about that blue and brass contrast.

Did you detach the driver board from the diode and run wires or were you able to manage to squeeze everything inside without doing so? It can be quite a tight fit with those long green modules.

Also I'm not sure if they're the same module, but DX has those 200mw 532nm modules for half of what that ebay seller lists for:
$46.81 - 200mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm) - Flashlight Parts and Tools

I've only bought the 50mw modules and they vary widely from 25-60mw in my experience, without modding the pot anyhow. Seems there isn't much info on what these babies can handle as far as max current for long life. Probably best to leave the thing set as it comes as was mentioned already. I know if you max out the pot on the 50mw modules with a 4.2vdc battery it will kill em'

Yeah the whole module fit inside the heatsink and pill area with a few mm's to spare!

Gunna leave it at the current settings :)

That would bee sweet!

ill measure it when i get home, i did try a aixiz focus ring which is M9 x 0.5 and the diameter was to small.

So i tried a M10 x 1.5 and i think the diameter is right but the pitch was wrong (a coarse pitch i believe), so it could be M10 x 1 or 1.25 (fine thread) or imperial? lol

Do you reckon it would be imperial?

Anyway ill chase up my thread pitch gauge and let you know!
