thanks you guys for getting my started on the supplys and tips. But the weird thing is that the LD will only lase when at 4 volts. is that ok?

I don't understand why. It works great though. Is it just "special"?, is it ok as long as it works?

yeah 4V is abit unusual?? is it a GB diode?

yeah, its a GB diode from senkat. not sure why, I have another one and it runs at 3 volts. the 4 volt one isn't any brighter or dimmer.
