hey all, i just bought a 300 mw red laser that  got of ebay from jess.06 ( http://www.spymodex.com/images03/redx_ang.jpg just like this one) and im really happy with it, even managed to burn plain white printing paper among other stuff,

there where few questions i wanted to ask:
what is the ultimate best way to clean lences and the glassy thing over the diode

is it possible to get a lence that sets the focus to the most of the beam, so i dont have to manually set it to what ever i need to burn stuff
and
what is the most power in a handheld laser

cant remeber anything else :P

thank you

OK . . .I am pleased that you are happy with it. . . . However, you seem hurt because people are trying to be nice.

1) You paid too much

2) It isn't 300mW

3) Use a lens pen and then be very careful cleaning your lens (keep it clean from the beginning)

4) You MUST focus the dot where you want to burn. Light diverges. That is a fact

Peace,
dave

how much did you pay?

im glad you happy with it. it looks almost like a host you would build yourself

hmm

1. is 146 dollars to mutch, the housing it self is really nice, and i got a rechargeable battery and a charger, everything is really expensive here in iceland, example: a small cheeseburger, with small fries and small coke costs about 15 us dollars (1200 isk) so i dont know how mutch for this piece is to mutch

2. why are you so sure, and is there any way i can measure it by stuff ppl usually have at home
i didnt get it at spymodex if ur refering to the picture, just the only 1 that i found, maby someone can help me find out where this type is manufactured

3. thanx :)

4. thanx :)

"However, you seem hurt because people are trying to be nice." hmm no im not hurt, i just didnt understand why nobody wouldnt answer me, thought i may had done something wrong...

That "reads" really mean. I am sorry. I was in a hurry. I was a bit late leaving for class.

$146 for a 300mW laser would not be too much. However, the chance that it is actually a 300mW laser is remote. Ask around the forum to see how many people here have a 300mW red. You will find that it is very few AND we can build them ourselves. 250-260mW is about the "big burners" available. I am also very sure that Spymodex is NOT using the types of diodes, drivers, and lenses that we are to get close to 300mW.

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell what power a laser is without a laser power meter. Dealers like Spymodex rely on the fact that most people do not have access to an LPM. I would "guestimate" that your laser is no more than 200mW. However, 200mW will burn well, so they are safe with claiming the higher power. Unfortunately, you can get a 200mW laser from DX for $44 (shipped). You can get a 260mW laser here for about the same price as you paid Spymodex.

I'm not saying it isn't a fine laser and a fine burner. You will probably have a nice time with it for a long time. It is just too much money for something that it is not.

Peace,
dave

i bought this of ebay from a guy named jess.06 http://myworld.ebay.com/jess.06/

and btw thanx for answering :D

Sorry, Dude. He's lying.

He says it has a 1 watt (1000mW) diode, but it is only putting out 300mW !?!
The beam can be "clearly seen" "stretching through the sky" ?
"People miles away can see the beam" ?

Read the text (hype) about the 200mW green. You will see an uncanny resemblance to the text about the 300mW red.

Once again, I'm not saying it isn't a cool laser. It's just not what he says it is (and it costs too much).

Peace,
dave

P.S. He's lying about his 200mW green pointers too.

hmmm okay, should i contact him and tell him that its not giving out the power its supose to

It won't do any good. He has lied already and continues to lie. Why would you telling him to stop change things?

If he actually has that power meter then he knows he's lying. If he doesn't have the meter, then he's lying about having it.

Just don't try to get other people to buy from him.

Peace,
dave

isn't there a tutorial on modding that laser he got? it looks familiar...

if its bright and burns things and makes you happy, then you weren't totally ripped off, right?

I say, you are at the right forum to find help on making your own powerful laser if you aren't entirely happy with it (and have some electronics skills)

hmm yeah i took it apart last night after my computer went out of batteries and i think it's fairly easy to fit another diode in there, any suggestions for a new diode

also i was thinking about how in the world i could measure how big the diode is and i found a possible way,

the battery says 3,7V and 2200 mAh and it goes for about 2.5 hours, it should be possible with these numbers to calculate how big the diode is

Sorry, there is no way to "know" the output without a power meter. If it burns and that is what you are looking to do, don't mess with it! Eventually the diode will burn out (or you will burn it out) and THEN look at rebuilding it.

How far did you take it apart already? Can you see the front of the diode? Is it circular and silver with a small opening in it? Is there glass (inside) covering the opening ? Can you describe it or post a picture of it? Do you have a digital multi-meter? We MAY be able to get you a closer "range" of output based in your description.

I guess that would depend on what you would call getting ripped off. If you paid full price for a sound system for your car that was labeled and advertised as a 300 watt. bumpin' sound system, that would blow your friends minds, but found out after you bought it that it was only putting out 180 watts of sound, would you feel ripped off? What if you found out that you could have gotten a 180 watt sound system for less than 1/3 of the price? Would you feel ripped off then? I mean, you would still have a fine 180 watt sound system that played music, right?

Peace,
dave

ill take some pictures tomorrow and send here, should i post a new thread or just send them here ?

Just keep following it up in this thread. I have it set for notification.

okay here are the pics

img0917bi2.jpg

it gives out a nice looking red beam, with a settable focuspoint

img0919yw0.jpg

so here is the laser

img0920wx8.jpg

here it is taken apart, lets look better at the head

img0922wg4.jpg

here is the head

img0924zx6.jpg

taken apart

img0927od9.jpg

taken more apart, lets focus on the golden stuff

img0928bt3.jpg

here is the diode, and by the look i think that it wouldnt be a problem to replace it

img0932xj7.jpg

and here is the back of it, the white thing feels like rubber or something like that

this housing setup is really nice and offers i think alot of possibilities
