Extracting Diodes From Nichia diode bank

I've looked through numerous threads and can't find a proven method of removing diodes from the Nichia 8 diode bank. I have a Nichia NUBM06 32 watt 445nm 8x diode bank. I am reaching out to anyone who can help me extract these diodes safely. I believe they are soldered in. But what is a safe temperature to melt the solder and not kill the diodes. They have designed it to be tough to remove, but I'm sure it's being done by quite a few people out there. I know I could cut them out but that will be time consuming and might cause damage.

I haven't torn one down yet, but I expect you are going to need to do some cutting and pealing....carefully, just heating it sounds like a very bad idea.
 
Yeah I agree. Heating it without knowing the specific temp is probably not advisable. I'm sure high power diodes reach a pretty high temp rite at the chip when running. I don't know how hot they get but I'm sure it's up there. They were soldered in but in a very controlled way.
 
This is obviously a closely guarded secret to those who know. I guess I will have to figure it out on my own. If anyone has any tips let me know. Thanks

I wish it wasn't a secret. I don't see why it has to be kept from the public. It would greatly help the hobby if people shared this info.
 
Yeah I understand some people make a profit from extracting diodes from these banks. I can't ever be mad at someone for for making a buck. But it would be be good to know. If someone knows and doesn't want the world to know feel free to private message me there's a free diode in it for you and your secret will be safe.

I think its similar to why you wont really find any information on what projectors give what diodes. Its probably to avoid copyright/legal issues to the forum.
 
Yeah that's true. Companies like Nichia are tight lipped about everything. You can't find out much even from there website. The company I got the diode bank from said Nichia is putting pressure on them not to release any type of data sheets.

That is correct, that's why we can't use the word Ca$10 in the forum, they don't want their products torn apart to extract laser diodes, they know about us and that's why these diode banks have been developed to be extraction resistant.

It's understandable companies don't want us extracting diodes, waving them around in handheld form. It's a huge liability for a company. As diodes get more powerful people need to do more to protect our hobbie from bad publicity. That's for sure.
 
I'm not planning on using any heat, maybe a heated xacto knife blade in vice grips after the cracking to loose the edge but likely no heat, if I can I am going to repurpose the entire block employing some of the factory optics. It all passes through the phosphor wheel in a cluster, some telescope optics and ......well who knows, I must see what's in there, the moment the parent unit hits my price I will find out, at worst I wreck the whole thing, no guts no glory.
