starting 14:45 today was pretty crazy in the ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) power market today.

Balancing Services MCP and NSRS Deployments

price is per megawatt.

to relate the price you pay on your electricity bill is per kilowatt.

expect your electricity bills to go up :)

I expect tomorrow (6/25/2009) to be even more ludicrous. forecasted temperatures in Dallas, TX are 103 F, even higher in the south.

Yeah the temp here is Tampa has been through the roof, but we're not anywhere near 103 F.

And why does electricity have to go up ? There is always the same amount of demand for electricity so it should actually get cheaper as demands rises. This shit dont make sense.
 
Because they have a monopoly they charge what they want. Where else are you going to get electricity? Unless you can afford to go off the grid but solar panels are expensive.

The demand for electricity changes constantly every instant. You turning your computer off / on, turning AC down / up, TV on / off, etc changes the demand (load) ever so slightly and when combined with everyone the demand is ever changing.

Today demand (also called load) was very high (61,000MW + in ERCOT) and there was just barely enough power plants producing power to supply the load with power. There was also like 100MW of wind power while it is normally 3000-5000MW.... wind never blows when you need it most.

haha. See Obama should really make change by now. Instead of making that stupid stimulus bill he could of bought every stinking family in america Solar panels or a windmill and they can make there own energy and save people lots of money. But then the electric company looses all profits. There all together as 1 system. All the major companies what everyone to go " Eco-Friendly " or " Green " But look at the damn prices of the windmills and solar panels. No one can afford them ! Well said.

that is true about your whole statement. LoL. i'm not being mean but of coarse the demand changes with the seasons. Do you have any idea how much energy air conditioners use? electricity makes a lot of heat. and in the summer months there is much more wear and tear on the transmission equipment. why do you think there aren't rolling blackouts in winter?
