Hello,

I recently ordered "Housing/Case/Heatsink 5.6mm TO18 Laser Diode LD 405nm 450nm Blue Glass Lens Fan" from ebay and wondered if anyone had any experience? How well will the optic work, etc.

This is my first laser project, but have had a lot of experience with industrial LEDs and drivers through work.

Here is the given description:

housing/heatsink for TO18 5.6mm Laser ld

size: 33*50

fan: yes

lens: three layers glass lens can work on 400-500nm violet blue laser M0.9*0.5

I'm pretty sure they mean the three element lens by this. The lens will thread into Aixiz modules which the diodes are pressed into. It will work with blue (445nm-465nm) and 405nm violet laser diodes but the optical losses will be greater than the G2 lens I think. If you get a green diode or a red diode you'll probably need to get a 3 element lens that has AR coating for those wavelengths.

About the housing, the only thing I can see going wrong is the fan dying.

What diode do you plan on putting in there?

There have been some people here buy those but I don't have one so I can't say much. I do have an M140 with a 3 element lens, they have a rectangle shaped beam, with the 3 element lens you get some splash on either side of the beam something like this ( - ) but you can focus to a smaller dot at a greater distance than a G2 or single element lens. Let us know how your project works out.

Its not an aixis as far as i know, at least not the one i got, its a direct press thingy into a pill thing into that cube...

I guess it would work like an Aixiz module. You have to press the diode into the metal pill and solder leads onto the diode. Does the kit come with a diode press or something?

I think the diode module holds the diode by screwing two parts together.
I ordered a similar one but still haven't received it.
