Ebay $9 blu-ray pens: GREAT!

how much of a turn takes it from lowest of highest. I got the hole drilled but couldn't turn the dam pot for anything (seems mine had some goo applied to keep the pot at factory setting) so ordered some precision screwdrivers from ebay to get better leverage on it. Do the pots have a hard stop like a key in a door lock or will they allow infinite turning with max and min staying the same like some knob type audio controls on receivers.

I like the idea of being able to turn it down for presentations or to max if wanted. If I can get it to turn, I might try to jb weld an extension so it can be adjusted at will.

See post #104. Mine had no glue or anything, but the drivers on these, at least the 405's anyway, seem to already be cranked all the way up.

Got this 405 blue and a 5mw 532 from DX for $9.69. The DX greenie came in a box and is MUCH brighter that the blue that just came in bubble wrap. You can see the green beam at night, but not the blue.

Well, that's sort of to be expected. Your eyes see green a lot better than 405. Plus if you can see the beam the green is way overspec. I know 25mw of green is a lot brighter and more visible than 50mw of 405.

uh thanks but post 104 doesn't speak to either of the questions I posted?

The pot on the one I dismatled didn't have stops. Most of the little micro pot's i've seen rarely do.

Has anyone torn open a Green pen from them yet? I got their 35mW module, which is really bright and reliable, but the barrel construction appears to be a "crimp" assembly.

If the flakey green pen is assembled the same way (with xtals not accessible) then I will just blow it off.

I have one of my greens apart, there's no doing it without destroying the host though with the greens. The crystals generally aren't easily accessable on any of them. on the pics you posted in #109, somebody had cut out a cross section of that module. Every one i've seen has been fully enclosed.

Just look. there are LOTS of sellers selling these ebay.. Us in the US just get them from the guy here selling them so we only have to wait a couple of days for them to arrive instead of a couple of weeks.

No clue, but most likely they're all made by the same chinese manufacturer. But for <$10... it's not like it's the end of the world if it's not 40mw+

I ordered 2 last week. They should be the cheapest/brightest UV portables ever if they are 40mw+.I will use an add on lense to defocus them to a spotlight for mineral and amateur forensic fun.It will be interesting to see how bright the beam appears as well, since it is so close to visual response cutoff.
I would be sad if they were both 15mw or less since it would directly impact my intended use! Here's hoping they are 40mw+!!!

I just got my 2.One was brighter than the other.I put lithiums in the dimmer one and the gap narrowed somewhat. They are nice lasers and for 9 bucks I am especially pleased. It is very dim until you hit something fluorescent, then you can easily see how powerful they are.

Well, I'm Dutch and you know the predudices about us being cheap and greedy? They're true ;) But 'most likely' is fair enough to buy one or at least contact the seller.

Thanks

I am in the US and I bought 2 from the original link.I just tested divergence on a fluorescent target at 70 feet...excellent!!9 dollars? get one while they last...
I hate that the 405nm is nearly invisible...that being said, it is a very nice pen laser.A nice addition to my modest laser arsenal for 9 bucks!!

I did what fullinfusion showed and drilled a hole in my green to get to the pot. You need the correct size mini screwdriver to turn it and the pot is VERY sensitive, the slightest adjustment will take you from <5mw to 20mw. Right goes down, left turns it up.

If you drill, you'll get thru the metal, then there'll be a bit of the plastic that holds the driver. Once you get to/thru the plastic, you might need to clean any plastic with the screwdriver, don’t keep drilling to try and get it out else you could hit the pcb or mess the pot up.

I just got one of the itemquickship RGV sets in and figured i'd post the numbers from metering them.

650nm pointer = 6mW
532nm pointer = 13mW 532nm, 12mW IR
405nm pointer = 63mW. Highest i've seen out of these yet.
