Just extracted a diode from just a regular dvd player. There was only one diode, it is a canned diode. I think it is 1-5mW, i have a few questions though...

1. Is it Infra Red of a visible red?

2. What mW do you think?

3. What is the postive and negative pin?

4. How many mA should i put into it?

Thanks

Strange ..... if it was a PC cd/dvd player, it must have 2 diodes, one IR and one red.

What player was that ?

Well i am going to have a quick look to see if i missed another diode.

EDIT: Just looked and there was only 1 diode. It is a sony dvd player, i can get pictures if you want..

Is it a 4-pins diode ? ..... i mean, like in the PHR sleds, where there's a diode with 2 chips inside, one IR and one red ..... or maybe the other diode can be a flat plastic one.....

I also have found in the past some DVD players that was using a red LED (yes, LED, not laser diode), for read the DVD ..... i know it's strange, but that was ..... it was a 3mm clear transparent led .....

I am just taking pictures now if it, and the actual dvd player. I will upload the pictures in about 30 min
