Driver Assistance 450nm Diode 5mw

If I use a Osram PL450 450nm diode (Not yet purchased), am I able to make two circuits from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rjlf7gnXms http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/diy-homemade-laser-diode-driver-26339.html
One with 5mw output, and one with 50mw output and use a 3 position lock, Off(Safe)/5mw/50mw, and a Momentary on button to drive the unit? Or will this cause an issue with the capacitors discharging and blowing the diode?
I don't really want to use a Potentiometer.
Also would I need to make two complete circuits or just input before the resistor, and output from the lock to the desired resistor?

Is there a driver that is already made this way?

I hope that I have explained my plan well enough. Thanks for any help.
 





The momentary button needs to go between the power source and the driver.

A three position switch can be used to switch in additional programming resistors. Have the default be 1k. This will limit the driver to 1mA which is essentially off. There are several other ways to work this "safe" feature. Switch in resistances in parallel to increase the current. Does that make sense? If you give me the operating currents you want to use, I can draw something up quick.

The diode start lasing at 24mA with an output of 2mW. I guess it hits the 5mW at 27mA

I need less than 5mw so based on that post 26ma seems like a good number and it looks like 4volts? The higher power is the more confusing part for me. How to change the volt to 5volts? I'd like 50-80mw as the secondary. This is not a must though. The Less than 5mw is absolutely a must though.

I intend to purchase the diode and this may be completely off being that the diode is listed as 120mw and the guide I was looking at shows 80mw.

There are a few ways to do this. Here is one option: replace the resistor/pot in that diagram with this configuration:
