Dragon Lasers 1W Spartan

Review is not that accurate, some Spartan have very pathetic low duty cycle of less than 1 min. My newly bought Spartan died after switching on for just 1min continously and Dragon Lasers is not claiming any responsibility to repay me back.

Duty cycle is more than a minute... either you got a dud, or you did something wrong.

MAy I ask what do you think I could have done wrong? I am just viewing my readings over my newly arrived nospin LPM and after a minute, it flickers, the dot weakens to the stand I don't een need to wear my goggles, and died, and that happens 30s after the 1st min.

If i got a dud, then it is the responsibility for Dragon Lasers to pay for the RMA shipment tru&fro, or refund. Simple as that. This is called after-sales service. How much garrantee can Dragon Lasers give me? There is no garrantee my replacement laser is in good condition. Let me ask you, what if it dies again after a min like the first one? Do I have to pay for the tru&fro shipment once again, then subsequently the 3rd month happens, then fourth, and after the six month, after the six replacement, warranty period over, i still got a laser with 1 min duty cycle.

US$240 is not cheap. The make is simple, anyone can have the capability to make it. XJ-140A is only $38.50 in the GB. Don't tell me everytime it dies, I am responsible for the shipment? If it dies every once a month, am I responsible to pay for the RMA shipment tru&fro every month? This is shyt after-sales service.

Chill out with the shipping. You ship it to them, they ship it to you. You pay, they pay. It's how it works. If you don't like it, don't buy things. You will always be responsible for moving the item back to the seller.

Based on how you're behaving, I have no idea what you could have done wrong - but I don't doubt that you could have.

I don't expect that kind of response, you don't know what happen, you can only assume base on replies. I have always been carefull with the laser. Either they ship it back, or else not. Because I am not going to responsible for 2 way shipment. I am already hot and angry, is this how you judge people?

If Dragon Lasers responded amiacably, I might go with 1 way shipment. But to push it all away and say they are not responsible for both ways, this is not going to be positive on their sales, simple as that. thank you for understanding

I have dealt with Chinese companies before. You will pay for shipping to them. They will pay for shipping to you. You each are responsible for one way. That is what they mean when they say they are "not responsible for both ways." Short of teaching you English, I can't make it more clear than this.

You're hot and angry and not reading what I'm saying.

Okay, lets see what you say is right, thanks for teaching me English. I will be waiting for that Spartan to appear at my doorstep. You wait and see

IMO...After owning the Spartan and the Arctic and coming to the conclusion that they
were inferior to the quality of a DIY built 445 (mainly my wannaburn builds).

I have sold them off to a unsuspecting soul, who has never seen a custom built laser.

Anyone who is a member here should get familiar with the 'buy, sell & trade' section of
LPF...Spend less money and get far better quality, buying from one of the builders here.

You won't have to wait 4 months for your laser and deal with Steve's army of imbeciles...
or Frank's bouts of weirdness!:gun:

And that's a good thing.

What I want to say to all of the Spartan owners is DON'T try to wipe the lens in any case with any material. The lens is plastic or acrylic so it's very easy to scratch it (like CD surface). Use only penicillus very gently to brash off the dust.
By the way, I contacted Dragonlasers support and they replace my laser with dirty and scratched lens by the new one without any problems. I've recieved the new Spartan in 12 days after the old one had been delivered to DL. Great customer support! I'm impressed.

Er...

... "Plastic" lens?

Are you absolutely certain??

I'm not sure about the exact kind of material used, but I know that it is easy to scratch even with a cotton swab. If you don't believe - check yourself :yh:

Lol, no offence, but are you seriously trying to get me to repeat the same mistake as you in the hope I come to the same flawed conclusion?

I understand that wiping with a cotton swab can often pass residue already on the swab onto the lens, leaving marks/streaks, and not necessarily scratches.

That's why it's a good idea to tear off the outer layers of a swab being especially careful not to touch the inner fibres, and then use that to wipe a lens.

Also, since when has cotton been harder than acrylic, or glass? Surely necessary in order to be able to "scratch".

Furthermore, isn't it well known that acrylic lenses actually melt, or at least obviously deteriorate with outputs of around a watt?

Sorry to sound a bit pedantic, but I'm responding as you categorically stated the lens is plastic and anyone not certain may well take that as fact, not to mention copy your clearly damaging process to try and clean their own lenses, leading to similar damage.

Just a few of many threads that came up regarding lenses and their cleaning.

You seem to have tried to clean your lens with a dirty cotton swab, and decided that the Spartan 1W has an acrylic lens as a result of that.

If it is glass, no dust except sand can damage the lens. The lens coating - yes, but not the lens surface. I've used new, absolutely clean cotton sticks from a lens cleaning kit and the lens cleaning fluid also from that kit. It's very hard to scratch compact disc surface with it but it's possible since the CD surface is acrylic and very exposed to scratches. I was unable to scratch with these tools any other material including plastic not to mention glass.
But after gently cleaning the lens some scratches appeared there and I make it sure after observing through microscope.
It's not statement, but my suggestion. Maybe there was a lot of sand around the lens appeared from nowhere when I was cleaning it, but the fact is that scratches appeared.
It's very hard to believe that clean acrylic lens will melt, because it's almost impossible to burn/melt any transparent plastic with such a laser. Even white plastic is very hard to melt. Transparent materials such as acrylic allow very large amount of energy to pass through. I think about 99% or more, so only 10 mw of laser power are heating the lens - it's not enough to melt it.
These are my thoughts about it.

Tried teflon tape around a match .. and man it works great ! Especially for diode window cleaning.

I was thinking about ordering a Spartan 1w laser. I know the order doesn't come with batteries, but i was wondering if it came with safety glasses or do i have to order one of the safety glasses they sell on their website?
