Some people were talking about DPSS lasers having better beam specs than diode lasers but being more expensive at the same, so I checked:

http://www.meshtel.com/redsys.htm

Holy smokes, almost ten grand for a 100 mW red laser!

By the way, does anyone know how the beam profile of a DPSS laser will compare to that of a single-mode diode laser?

It depends on how's its built, really. Beam profiles get better with a longer lasing region, and worse with a wider region (from a longitudinal perspective). This works the same way it does for gas lasers to some extent.

The main reason for using DPSS on a red laser would be output power, as single mode diode lasers are limited to 200 mW or so. One downside is that DPSS red usually works at a not very visible wavelength (671).

Well, $10k for 100mW is excessive, but yeah, they're expensive. Expect to pay somewhere between a green and a blue in terms of cost per mW. Beam specs on a DPSS red, in general, will be just about the same as a green DPSS.

Well aperantly this laser here is dpss..http://www.spymodex.com/laser004.htm

Heres what it says about it..."genuine up to 1.5 watt laser diodes, shock resistant, passive thermal cooling and advanced pump and driver assembly."

Notice the 1.5watt laser diode and advanced pump, sounds like dpss to me unless they have no clue what there selling and just put that :p

EDIT: Wow the one you linked does have .5divergance

Woooooooooooooooooolazer, Spymodex is full of shit - they do not know what they are selling as those lasers are NOT DPSS. Check the other thread regarding Spymodex.

I thought they werent, you can tell they must not pay much attention its says the continous ouput of the 100mw is 30mw.. a little less than the 100mw they claim..

Lol they make it sound all techinical and fancy, they might as well put "state of the art heat induced air cooling, the most advanced cooling technique of any laser for only $200 Note actual output is not 100mw it is <20mw
