Down grading a 2W laser?

Ok im new to this forum and to lasers in general. Ive been looking for parts to make a laser and i will list them bellow:

Laser Diode: 1 8W 445nm A Type M140 Blue Laser Diode in Copper Module w Leads | eBay

Laser Module: 445nm 447nm 450nm 1W 1 4W 2W Laser Diode Drive Driver 3 7V Current Adjustable | eBay

Now, since the module says its current adjustable does that mean i can lower the power to around 0.8 AMPs since i want to make it a 700 mw laser.

Also are the parts compatible and should i use conventional batteries or lithium, thanks!

I would suggest a preset X-drive or X-boost. I get a lot of people that are new to lasers contacting me having trouble with that boost driver. Some don't realize they need to have an actual test load to set it up and not hook it up directly to the diode before setting the current, adjusting the pot with the diode connected or they connect it to a DMM directly which will damage the driver and can leave the output cap charged which can then destroy the diode if connected without bleeding it.

At 800mA, you will probably be getting over
a watt of output. If you want 700mW, then
run at 600mA. But keep in mind that every
diode is different. If you need to be sure
it is 700mW, then I would suggest to get a
LaserBee LPM.

I Would run maybe 1A to the diode and use a 3 element lens to get somewhere near 700mW, guess he wont know the output until he LPM's to see how efficient the diode is etc
