Do my saftey glasses work?

I was using my bluray to test out burning some stuff a little while ago and I had my glasses on that I got from Nova. It says they are OD 6 for 190-532nm but after a while my eyes started to hurt. When burning with my green laser this never happens, and the dot from green seems a lot dimmer then the blue. Is it possible that these don't phase out the 405nm well enough? My eyesight is fine, my eyes just hurt a little bit... and so does my head but I thinks that's cuz I was etching plastic plastic which I've learned creates a bit of nasty smoke.

(Oh and, I learned that the bluray lights white matches ;D)

You need to read the "sticky" in the blu-ray board. The 405nm beam is difficult to focus on. Your eyes will fatigue more quickly when viewing it. The symptoms you describe are the symptoms of fatigue NOT from excess light getting through.

i wouldnt use your nova goggles when burning with a bluray.
yes they do dim out the bluray alot, but they werent designed for 405nm.
a direct hit in the eye, with or without the goggles and you would be having serious vision problems.
dont leave it too late, just talk to frothychimp he can hook you up with some proper 405nm blocking shades.

I'm pretty sure the novashades are fine when using blu-rays. Mine basically block >99% of my 130mw blu-ray on a direct hit. Unless you're using a magical 500mw blu-ray there shouldn't be a problem.

If you're worried about it, check the GB board, there's one going for 405nm specific goggles, $35 each.
