Ok, thanks for the help. I just finished a mini laser diode driver and I never used it on a blu-ray. The driver is like yours, but about the size of 2 pennies. I have a smaller one, but no video of it yet.

see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1JUm-XgHqw

Phazonx, this is a very nice work you did. You certainly got hands to build stuff. I hope you are aware you can get al those components in smaller format and build the same driver in even smaller volume. It would be a piece a cake for you.

Milos !! I never knew you are a builder !!!! Nice work.
You are getting about the same as mine at that current.
Over that current, you stand on the cliff of OWCH !! I ran one at 55 mA to light a match to show it can be done. A $35 experinment :( Dead in 15 minutes.
Keep up the good work and learning !!

Mike

Hey man, thanks!, I did a lot of precision soldering back for audio stuff, but now its LASER TIME ;D ;D.
I'm already thinking of cooler casing aka v2.0 8-)

btw, mine lasted about 3 seconds at 53mA or so :-X

Good job! I want to build a blu-ray so bad. Just waiting on parts...

thanks dude,
nothing can substitute the feeling for when you build IT yourself !
Let us know how it goes.

Re: My first DIY  Blueray portable pointer.

I guess I got lucky when I did the match light...I pushed it to 55ma's. As soon as the match lit, I shut it off and backed it down to 38ma's. It did take what seemed like forever focus the beam perfectly so the match would light. It would be very interesting to see what these can do at 65mw's. Blu-ray burners will drop quickly in price,,,I can't wait..lol.

That sucks, cannot link to Laser Enthusiast Forum from here. Whats going on ??? (another piss off war!)
Here is that Red version of my DIY project. I got the parts from SenKat.
Worked out great.
I have it running at 276mA outputting 202mW now. I had it at 290mA earlier outputting 224+mW but I tuned it down so it lasts longer.
You can see a small DIY heat sink I built to help heat dispersion as well as seat the barrel down in the box.

Its been a busy couple of days ;)

Re: My first DIY  Blueray portable pointer.

Nice, how long does the 9v battery last? I'm guessing not long, specially when running at that current.

Yeah, I plan on getting smaller ones so I can maybe make it size of a coin! I have two of the ones I just made and I have people who want to buy them. I'm gonna sell them for $15 each. Seems fair.

Not from my end?
I allow links to ANY other laser Forum.
its beyond me as to why links to LE are not allowed here.
Even TL has calmed down ;D

Re: My first DIY  Blueray portable pointer.

thanks desslok,

Here is beam pictures and some extras as I promised. (check pg.3 for more 405nm pics)
You can notice new case for 405nm. Now it has power adjustment wheel (thumb adjustable) which is also on/off switch. Its a bit smaller. I might sell it on ebay soon as such. but I'l let you guys know first if interested :-)
