I used to be involved in this stuff, and, well, actually using liquid N2 to freeze Xe would be fine, except that manipulating it into something useful would be not as easy as projected.
We used to use it to prime high vacuum pumps for example.
The bottom line is that the equipment to actually be able to freeze the Xe, transport it into a container that you could use for a gas laser, at a purity that might work to lase with, is simply a bit hard for someone who is first learning what a laser is.
For example, the amount of Xe in each flash needs to be added to your "stash", and, then purified. Do you have a good way to freeze the flashes, yet open them and take out your frozen Xe, and, then, put it into something with your other frozen flash gases w/o it boiling on the way, or, your stash boiling, etc?
