Did my green laser die?

Hello,

I ordered this 200mW Green laser pointer pen from Yourlasers.com.
It finally arrived after 1 and a half months waiting.

I know this laser doesn't actually output anywhere near 200mW, but still, what could I expect from the price?

Anyway,
The laser was working really well as I was able to see the beam very clearly in any dim lit room.
Today I was normally pointing it around and the dot started to lose strength and suddenly stopped working.
I thought the laser died but still, I tried using fresh batteries, and it didn't work, then I thought that maybe it can be the spring that just disconnected from the diode but as I can't disassemble the laser because of the warranty, I proceeded to filming the laser with my cell phone camera to see if it emmited non-visible radiation and sure enough, I could see light coming from the diode.

Here is a picture:

This light is not visible to the human eye.

What happened to my laser?
Is there a way to fix it?
Should I ask for a refund?

Thank you in advance,
Nargacuga

Yeah, it's IR radiation. Judging from the output, it seems it's gone LED... but I can't tell for sure.

Yeah, I'd ask for a refund.

Its dead. Send it back for a refund, and we'll point you to a better place to spend your money.

The crystals that create the green light from the IR light have either fried, or misaligned. In any event you wont be able to fix it.

Thank you for the replies, I have now issued a refund.

What alternatives to this laser can you recommend with a low budget of about $70 - $80 max?

I want a laser(Preferrably green) that can at least burn matches and has a clear beam.

Thank you,
Nargacuga

Why get those when you can get the Mini versions at the same price? :P

The first one TJ posted has a much much better host, so if it comes to quality this one is much better than the mini ones. You can make it even waterproof by adding a frontglas into the focus machanism.

The secound one TJ posted can be turned into a mini one by unscrewing the middle part of the host, so you can use it as a normal one with a 18650 battery or a mini one with a 16340 battery.

If it comes to output power take the 150mW. They are either within specs or even overspec. I bought just the module at Lazerer and it was doing 170mW. After a small modification and building it into such a transformable host like TJ posted it´s doing 220mW max now.

I dont know if I missed it before, or it just happened. But the two I linked are out of stock.

Anyway, if you want either of those two, just keep an eye on the sales page. They restock pretty quick.

Ohh damn that's freaking cool. Yeah, I would probably go with TJ's 2nd suggestion :p
