Hey all,

I'm very interested myself in getting some dichroic mirrors to mix colors with, but they aren't too cheap. I'd be happy to run a GB if enough people are interested, I've done many GBs before so don't worry :)

Laser-wave has some, their normal price is $30 for a mirror and $40 for a mount. Together thats $70, which is quite a lot :) Does anyone have any experience with other suppliers?

1. What GB's have you organized, and where?
2. What type of discounts would we receive?

I've done GBs on other sites, I'd say about 30 or so. The sites I did them on are in Dutch (inkoopacties.net and samenkopen.net). They were for a wide range of different stuff, from console modding to Kool-aid. Turnover could be up to thousands of euros and hundreds of orders.

I've been looking around for suppliers of dichroic mirrors a little and contacted a few of them. Alternatively, we could try to get enough to get a discount from laser-wave, though it would have to be a significant discount. I don't have any ideas of the prices yet but they should be a lot less than Laser-wave charges for it to be worth it. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!

Do you think you could include a description of what a dichroic mirror is for us uneducated people? :D

This sounds good, I think there was a GB for this a while ago as well, seemed failry cheap back then.

Sure!

Dichroic mirrors commonly refer to mirrors with a coating that (at a 45 degree angle) reflects some wavelengths and lets others pass. They are used the other way around (among others) in laser scanners to combine two colors of lasers to make another color, for example Green and Red to make Yellow. Here is an example of a blue-reflecting dichroic mirror:

The vertical axis (T/%) represents the amount of light with that wavelength that is passed through the mirror. What isnt passed is generally reflected (as you can see in the small picture). In reverse, if you apply a blue beam (or in this case violet @ 405nm will work too) to the top (as in the diagram), it will reflect to the left. If you then also add a green beam from the right (as in the diagram), it will overlap with the blue/violet beam and make Teal/whatever.

amidoinitrite?

Laser-wave dichros is among the best for laser show use, the much more expensive ones from Edmund optics have lower transmittance and reflection!
Maybe you could talk to Bridge at laser-wave directly and ask if he can cut you a deal if you get togeather enough pre-orders? He has done it in the past, I bought their products in the Photonlexicon groupbuy and it is good stuff!

hey nyla not to interupt your group buy if you would like to do it but if you would like i can give you all group buy prices without the group buy :)

i also have some dichros and mounts in stock and also about 5 pbs cubes

I could use a ~15mm square green pass/red reflect in about 2 weeks. Let me know about the price. Oh, and can I use a glue gun to mount it without messing up coatings? (I heard that some glues could mess up the surface)

Most likely, except if the heat damages the coating. The glue that you are speaking about is CA glue, cyanoacrylate. The vapours mess up the surface if I got it right.

I'm using the LaserWave dicro set and mounts --- Well worth the money. They work great.

I remembered that there was someone in the forum that used a broken SLR camera part to mix laser colors. He made yellow I think.....
