decanning

hi all,ive just got a nubm08 ld with a ball lense,any views on decanning these,ie an estimate of how much % decrease in lifetime can be expected etc,cheers m3vuv.

Estimate over 90% reduction in working lifespan with the GBall can removed when driven at max current, however shelf life ( off time ) appears to cause no harm, if you drove it at very low current it may not degrade at the accelerated rate, but I have killed them in 2 months of daily use with the can removed.

I just pop the can off with a screwdriver with the diode in a module with a full copper back half.

cool thanks for that,i need a fl of about 50mm so may be ok as is.its for a homebrew cnc mill.
