/Begin Rant

Uhm...yeah...the speed of shipping is not an issue - it is the speed at which they decide to process the order ! I paid for EMS - mainly out of WANT to get it faster - just getting some batteries - they took 7 days to even barely acknowledge the order, 3 days to fulfill it, 4 days to actually hit their equivalent of a post office, and then it was three days in transit to me. That is a 17 day wait, when I ordered on a Monday AM (for them) <Sunday Evening for me> BUT - they do finally deliver, and their stuff is good - so I continue to order from them. I just WISH they shipped faster - or processed faster, whatever :P *sigh* /End Rant <or whine...whichever !>

once they actually ship, mine usually gets here in California in 7-9 days... often by way of New York! but sometimes L.A. ??

the catch is, "once they actually ship".

Their 'tracking' system is a joke - my 9-yr-old neice could probably program a better system!

If the item detail page says "in stock", then maybe it's in stock; or maybe they are hoping to get it in stock some day; or maybe they've forgotten about that product and won't remember it again 'till someone gets back from vacation or you threaten to bludgeon their firstborn or whatever.

If your account orders page says it's shipped, it might be shipped; or some other item in the order might have shipped; or someone might have just hit the 'ship' button for kicks.

If it gets a tracking number, it might have shipped; or maybe not quite yet.

If Hong Kong Post reports they've received it, then it's "SHIPPED"! -- from DX.

Once it's at HKP, sometimes USPS tracking sees it - and sometimes not. And you can forget it again until the mailman or feemailman comes to your door. At which time you better be there, else you get the dreaded "blue slip" and then you gotta get yerself down to the nearest Postal Orifice to claim it.
[edit: USPS tracking seems to be improving a lot in recent weeks]

oops... almost forgot this part:
other than the above... and a certain facility for completely frigged-up communications and "support"...
DX Rocks!

i don't want to put a bad word to DX, buy they can often have item listed as in stock- while its realy out of stock. And thats ok, but they don't tell you after you pay. You have to go through waiting for delivery which won't come, and ask them "whats up" only to learn that they will restock this item in few weeks.

again, thats my only 1 experience I ever had with them, and a story that from someone that matches my exact experience.

Kaidomain on the other hand -I dealt with like 6 times this year and had 100%good experience with shipping and product.

just my experience though..

cheers

I should check out Kaidomain - never actually ordered from them before - I had heard the "origin" story though - DX was owned by two brothers, who had an argument, and "split" up and the other one started Kaidomain ! THAT is only what I have heard - makes no difference to me, just thought it was interesting :P

I was wondering about the eXtreme similarity... there are echoes of each in the other, right down to the crazy quilt of conflicting service reports.
::)

I forget where I actually heard that - I may just be repeating hearsay - but it sounds like it could be true :P I think I definitely should start trying out Kai - DX has continually shipped things VERY slow for me - generally I forget what the hell I ordered by the time it reaches me !

one trick for DX that I have hesitated to recommend - don't want to kill the goose that laid the golden egg (albeit slooooowly...) but: I've started to break up my orders into 1-3 item chunks. No increased shipping/handling costs, and if something should be only slightly in-stock, it doesn't hang a whole order. Don't know how long I can get away with that though, especially if everyone starts doing it.
:-)

[edit] plus - I get presents every day this way! :D

I always do that. Even if I am ordering 5 items on the same day I will make 5 separate orders and then I get all of the products as they are shipped instead of waiting for every single product to be IN STOCK.

Good points - next time I order - I will place duplicate orders at both stores - just to test out to see which one is swifter :) Muahahahaha !

Great idea - in theory... but because their service is so random, you might have to do that a whole bunch of times to get reliable statistics.

I'd suggest getting a research grant from your local University's Economics department to investigate this properly. But what a drag that would be - having to order a bunch of nifty little gadgets crappy consumer items every day, and opening all those presents packages and then having to spend half the day playing with testing them!

But seriously, that's a great idea - if enough of us did it, and post the results... we might start a competition between KD and DX to improve their service!
8-)
