Hey guys, it's been a while!

So about a year ago, I built a 445 for a friend with a Flexdrive at WOT in an Ehg host and Larry's 18650.

Long story short, the dude killed himself and I was given back the laser. The diode looks LED'd but I don't know if it's from over driving or because he dropped it. Batteries check out at 4.2v.

I was under the impression that these little guys can take all 1.5A from the Flex. The driver is heatsinked to the inside of the pill.

Is this a simple case of replacing and resodering the diode? Or is it possible for a Flexdrive to crap out.

Many thanks!

The flexdrives usually don't go out unless they are run without a load or given excessive voltage and since you say it is LED it should still be acting as a load with the same voltage drop.

With that said it would not hurt to test it on a test load before installing a new diode but my guess is it is probably fine.

I would save the diode after removal if you are using the diode removal tool that Moh sells. I used LED'ed diodes as test loads for a while before I got one myself. Also, if you de-can it and mess with the bond wires it can come back to life. I remember reading somewhere on the forum of this happening to someone. Oh well, just my 2 cents as the new guy :D

Alright guys thanks, the driver is thermal pasted in the pill so if the driver is set wrong, I'm SOL and I gotta break it outa there somehow.

I do not have a way to get this diode out, but if someone wants to cover shipping, you can have it, as long as you ship the head back. Some exceptions (IE I'm not shipping it to Joe Schmoe., Sorry, I need it back.)

The driver has pretty short leads so I wasn't too excited about my rusty soldering skills.

I need to know by Thursday at midnight PST, otherwise I am taking it out.

Wish I knew if this happened from dropping it or some other failure I am not aware of. I need a medium. Lol

Thanks again, and let me know if you want it!

If its LED'd then it most likely went COD, which you cant fix.

I'd toss it.

Sorry to hear about your friend Toast.

Alright thanks. I guess if there is no use then I will just get to it and replace it.

Thanks T_J,

Have a good one.
