Dead diode.  But why?

Hey guys,

Well i think another is going to the graveyard  ;D  :'(  ;D

Heres the deal.  I had a stonetek diode in an aixiz module connected to a rkcstr driver (300mA).  Its all in a z-bolt.com lab-style heatsink with a 4 AA battery holder connected to it.  It has been working fine for like 6 months now.  It was very bright but seemed kind of dim so i decided to switch out the batteries.  I pulled out some new AAs that each read 1.6v each.  I put them in the battery holder, fliped the switch and this dim (compared to the original...still kind of bright compared to a dollar store pointer).  Im guessing it is burnt out but what i want to know is WHY?  :-?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Depending on what current you were running it at, it could have simply reached the end of its natural life. Sounds like it's degrading right before your eyes..
