Soldered wires to the diode, then clipped wires to the proto-board with the circuit on it. Then clipped on the power. All the parts on the board were new and I shorted the legs of the cap just in case. Obviously wasn't as careful as I should have been. I really should have known better with the second one. I DID know better, it's rather embarrassing actually. That's what I get for rushing things. Next time I think I'll attach the cap to the LD as soon as humanly possible, and then go from there.
