D.I.Y. BR googles

i've got my 1st BR parts coming in the mail and i'm scared as hell to turn the thing on when i get it for fear of catching a random beam off of it and was wondering if this pair of super dark orange sunglasses would work. When i look at UV lights with them on i see no light at all and was gonna test them out by shining the laser through them 1st before trusting them at all. I've looked at googles and they look exactly the same color and shade as the +3 that i see on the net.

It is too hard to tell, if it is all you have then by all means use them, but don't fool yourself into thinking that you are guaranteed to be protected.

Keep in mind that UV light has a tendency to bleach dyes. A few seconds of exposure could destroy parts of the coating. Certified eye protection has been designed to provide protection from direct high power exposure for at least 10 seconds.

If it holds for 10 seconds, then I would use them for indirect exposure. But I would NEVER trust them to take a direct hit.

..at least they should be interesting for better seeing fluorescence.. and if they survive a direct hit for several seconds they are better than nothing for protection too!
in fact i use yellow sunglasses too for bluray instead of my custom-made real bluray-googles ;-)
