Im using this 1.8a driver: http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/fs-mohgasm-linear-drivers-68378.html

will 2 cr123a's in series work well to power it? they are 1800mah.
If they don't supply enough power, does anyone know what my expected power output would be to the diode?

im powering a 1.5-2w 445m diode.
thanks

(also if anyone could let me know roughly how long these batteries will run in this setup, that would be great too.)

Use this simple formula to calculate resistance,amps and voltage

A=R/V
R=V/A
V=R*A

V=voltage
A=Amps
R=Resistance

Now by taking the resistance and the amps in the driver itself you can calculate the perfect voltage of the battery for the driver you want to use

^Ohm's law doesn't work here. A driver is far more complex than a simple resistor.

It should work, but it's a big strain on the batteries and you'll be lucky to get a 20 minute run-time.

just a quick check.
to increase duty cycle/run-time one can parallel another "2 CR123 in series" will help rite?
provide size isn't a concern.

If you have space for 4 CR123s, then you have space for 2x18650s. 2x18650s will have substantially higher capacity than 4xcr123s.

does anyone know what the expected output current would be for 2 cr123a's?
I don't think I want the 1.8a the driver will give out anyways so I can increase the diode lifetime....

yes it is designed for 2x lithium batteries in series, the driver will maintain 1.8A's until the batteries voltage fall below the Vout+the drop out voltage.
