Can I match my 2w m140 to a Cree 18v 5w driver? I've always used modules that come with their own driver in kits. But I would like to make one a lot hotter. Any ideas?

That is an LED driver. I would suggest getting a laser driver to safely drive your diode and guarantee the longest life possible. The M140 has a max suggested of 1.8A and there are a few drivers out there that can get you there. X-drive, X-boost, blitzbuck, FMT boost, and FMT iDRV3 to mention a few.
