I have a series of ideas and new products that I would like to bring to the market that would require lasers. Who and where do I find knowledgable people to help me create prototypes?

Most of the ideas will require a laser, some visible and some invisible, which when broken will signal an indicator light, or stop a timer.

Right here of course, you just have to ask ;) What do you have in mind that you're willing to share?

Most of the ideas relate to volleyball, and I guess i need to know if some of the ideas are even possible. Here's one: Imagine a small tripod with a laser fixed on top which is sweeping across a court in a 45 degree arc and needing to cover a distance of 30 feet. Attached to the player is a receiver or mirror, so that when the receiver/mirror faces the tripod, and indictor light shines or a buzzer goes off. Possible?

As I look down my list, I realize that most of the applications, unlike the one above are just fixed lasers and receivers, which either light up or start/stop a timer when the laser is broken. It seems as simple as the safety lasers on a garage door. Is it possible to buy small lasers and receivers and then mount them as needed and connect them to the appropriate bells and whistles and timers that I will be using? I have a fair amount of electrical experience so I am not intimidated by that. Also, what type of laser would be most appropriate for these applications?

You can easily combine two or more posts one after the
other using the [Edit] button on the bottom of any of
your posts.

Double posting within minutes when it is not neccesary
is frowned upon on the Forum...

That being said...
There are no safety Lasers on a Garage Door. That safety
device uses an IR LED and lens as a transmitter.

Doing a quick Google search got me these results...

Sure it's possible. Sounds like you need a led emitting source limited to 30 feet (horitontal and/or vertical) that triggers an alarm when a reflection is confirmed. The only problem might be limiting the alarm to reacting only when the desired reflection is confirmed rather than other similar, possibly unintended reflecting surfaces like those from a viewing audience.
