A 15 ohm resistor hooked up in parallel with a CR123 is going to draw 240ma.

OK...again..forgive me...but a resistor ACROSS the leads of the Batt..is going to draw 240Ma...just converting it into heat...Correct??

Please explain why I would rather draw off 240Ma from the Batt converting it to wasted heat, rather than limiting the current down the Positive line to the diode? After all..the diode is only going to pass current one way as is the nature of a diode..even a LD.

I'm sure this is Electronics 101 ...but I'm not seeing the point of essentially a dead short across a battery.

Thanks

You have just about answered your own question.. ;D There is no point in having the resistor in parallel to the battery. It is a waste. It should be in series with the battery, which will limit current and be useful.
