Do you have any idea if those circles in the light-spot are normal? What are they? It's a GGW higher wavelength diode set at 155mA on flexdrive in a Pocket Mini host with copper heatsink :D

sorry, the attachments gave an error on first post but didn't see it. I have attached 2 photos

Ahh, I see now. My folds does that, only because the focusing lens is a mess. It looks like bacteria in a petri dish when I spin it lol. Maybe that's the issue you're having, if the lens is acryllic I think it does that.

Could be small spots of foreign matter on the diode window. They are not a problem when you add the lens and focus the laser, right?

Peace,
dave

the lens is removed, only the module housing with the bare diode. thx daguin, I'll clean it up. would a photo-camera lens cleaning solution with glasses cleaning cloth do?

It is worth a try. I would just leave it alone. They are not enough to significantly effect your output. I would start with puffs of compressed air. DON'T BLOW on it with your mouth. You could just add spittle to the problem. If compressed air doesn't do it, use a lenspen. Anything beyond that is a risk.

Be gentle. You do NOT want a broken window.

Peace,
dave
