Last weekend (Saturday) was Chuseok (Hangawi) in Korea, the festival to honor ones Ancestors as well as celebrate the beginning of Autumn. It is a time for travelling to ones hometowns and eating and drinking.
Usually (Traditionally) one family typically makes ALL the food and it's a major pile of stress. So, we streamlined our Chuseok and did a potluck style one instead.
I was on Jeon duty, the day before making all sorts of Jeon with my mother-in law, sister in law and my wife.
It is extremely important in Korea, like many other Asian and "old world" countries to honour Ancestors/ sprits. When we are performing Charae, we leave the doors open to let in the ancestor sprits/Kashin.
First pic is of Chuseok day, September 30th.
The last 2 pics are of a cultural celebration, linked with the First day of Autumn. I think there are a few Mudang (Shawman) in the parade here. errr.. (Shamanistic awareness parade?)...
Shamanistic society group. Passing down the old ways to the younger generation.
Also, something that was handed out at the parade was booklet on
