Hello Everyone,

At the beginning of January, I sold my text books to Amazon like I do every semester. They seem to pay the most per book, and I can use the "E-Gift Card" they send me on anything in the marketplace.

This time, twas not the case. I had to argue with customer support for over a month to get my payment. They claimed they never received the books even though the USPS tracking showed them delivered Jan. 16, and one of their customer support agents even told me "the books were recieved just not inspected". Two days ago I received an email explaining that Amazon had given me a Promotional Certificate for the $250+ in books they lost. I got on their website to see what the diference between the Promotional Certificate and the E-Gift Card are, and I found these rules:

-Promotional Certificates cannot be used on any item not sold by Amazon.

-Promotional Certificates do not cover shipping expences.

-Promotional Certificates cannot be used to purchase Gift Cards.

This rules out nearly everything I was planning to purchase from Amazon, including some supplies for my next laser build. I was planning to make a 405nm laser next, but instead of simply buying a diode I could use this Promotional Certificate to buy a Blu Ray writer and harvest a diode - and so comes my question. Has anyone ever taken apart one of these burners? I want to make sure the one I end up buying ( if I get one at all) has a 5.6mm diode.

Amazon.com: blu ray 16x

This link is to the Amazon search page that shows burners "Sold by Amazon".

Thanks , any help is really appreciated!

I've been looking at them, and the prices for a 12x with a DVD diode and a 14x are about the same. For a while it seemed like the 14x blue ray diodes didn't really offer much better performance than the 12x.

Is that still the case? If so, I will probably opt for the blue ray & DVD combo drive and harvest a red diode too.
