hi.

i'm thinking of making some laser shows, and i'm wondering what lasers i shod use..
i want it to be on for several minutes (maby hours) so maby i need a fan for cooling?

will the dx true 5mw or the DX 5mW green module work good? (i will use some smoke)
if i need more power, how much is safe?

the shows im looking at:
youtube dot com /watch?v=4WlqSIphnig
youtube dot com /watch?v=5hxXmnwdA1g
youtube dot com /watch?v=OMd8MGYbGSs

i have one 200mW red dilda laser, and waiting for my 50mW true DX laser (tested several true 30 dx lasers)

You're going to need lab style lasers. I would recommend this one. Good heatsinking is a must, so portable lasers are out of the question (Unless it's a Hercules).

How much power do i need for an ok laser show? (green)
Will this work good? ebay .com nr:  120371123835
for me is it beat with a dc power, (so i can run it from batteries, or other power sources)

With the other, one laser show will cost over 100$ (taxes in norway, shipping + other parts)

It all depends on the size of the venue and audience - if you are looking to build a show for your home, parties, etc then 30mW would probably suffice. We tend to run our smaller show units (50-150mW sourse) at venues where our display area is 2000sq ft or less, for the bigger shows though we have units right up to 600mW (2X300mW Green) to ensure full saturation of the venue.

Watch Ebay - you can often pick up smaller 50mW green DMX show displays for right around $100US shipped (might be a bit more to get it to Norway, though) - If you can find one, I recommend the Shinp SL5 (50mW Green, DMX, Dual Stepper Motors, Fan Cooled, etc) ... Although building your own is the fun of it, for $100 that gets you your heatsinked, driven 50mW green module, steppers, mirrors, dual-voltage power supply, a really nice case to build with, cooling fan, etc (If you want to look at it as $100 out of pocket for $200 or more worth of parts, if purchased seperately).

Just a thought - either way, you could always just put it together again the way it came and have a pretty decent 50mW green display, ready to run if your build(s) don't work out the way you'd planned.
