Hi.
I'm wondering If i Could get a 50mw red laser than is not that dangerous just to look at. Is the danger just because of the brightness? Because apparently a 5mw green is like 20x brighter than a 5mw red. So wouldn't a 100mw red be the same brightness of a 5mw green, or... Basically is a 50mw-100mw red laser dangerous just to look at? And is the danger just the brightness?
If it is not that dangerous, what is the cheapest red laser that can pop balloons and light matches, than can be shipped to the US?

As for the danger because of the brightness... They are all the same brightness but our eyes see the 532nm wavelength much better. So anything over 5mw you will need safety glasses

If its 5mw or above I would always use caution and wear goggles.

Usually anywhere between 50-100mw is where burning happens. Usually in any wavelength.

yep, be caution of 5mw+ lasers. i got a direct hit in the eye, if i look into the sky, the green spot is still there as a sort of patch of green. really annoying, and there is nothing to do about it, no amount of surgery will get rid of it, so best to invest in some good goggles

And to think ive been running around with my 1.3w 445 without goggles :shudder:

For the laser, you could get a 100mW 650nm laser from O-like for $17 with standard shipping. Just as everyone else has said goggles for a laser of this power are a MUST. Especially if you are wanting to burn. You only have one set of eyes after all.

You can buy a LPC-815 is a 22x burner you can draw it a 250mW+ 635-660nm diode if you put it @380mA.

OP wants something that can burn but still be safe, 200mw is good at burning but really dangerous, im not saying a 100mw is any safer, but its just better and less costly for what he wants. bit like a knife will cut chicken same as a chainsaw, but chainsaw is more dangerous.
