I have searched the forum to see if the idea had already existed and found nothing, if so then this thread is my spin on it.
I wanted to try the dual ben boost set up in a build... those who ever cared to noticed in my builds since I don't have a lathe I have settled on using a brass 1/2" to 5/8" reducing brass male adapter.
I have found that splitting the compression ring gives you a very snug fit around the Aixiz
module. I know the pros and the cons already, but it truly works I have had many PHR, LOC, SOC ect...builds that are used ALOT and can honestly say they still are running strong no degradation and are very hardy(abuse and so forth).
I have shared many ideas freely like others here (thank you) so my little contribution is for those who can get it done with just a trip to The Home Depot.
Now for the copper... with the diode and driver combination of the past (PHR/rckstr LOC/groove) all you really needed to do was heatsink the chip with finned or just some aluminum chunk on the IC, of course you were running somewhat conservative settings. Well things have changed and here is my evolutionary step.
I wanted some copper, but the was no place around to source some stock locally, so I thought of using some 1/2 copper pipe from Home Depot and flattening it out with a vice and tapping the rest of it flat with a plain ol' hammer
I bought a 3' section for $4.99 US.
My plan is to use the pads upper and lower section to mount my driver/drivers to. I figure I can get 20 to 25 of these pads out of one 3' section of pipe not bad for 4.99 US.
Each Pad weighs 7grams I'm sandwiching 2 together for 14grams total. I believe this will give me plenty of heatsinking for my given runtimes and such.
I will post back with the result when finnished... I have one with a aluminum pad already built, I will insert pics if I can ever get off the course.Thank you for reading have a good day:beer:
EDIT: This is what I consider a beta build.
I used keyways to draw the heat away from the coil also for support.:wave:
I also used 2 hour set JB weld to hold the spring and pad to the aluminum sink
IMO turned out tidy.:beer:
I was very surprised to find that running it at 4.5V it drew 3.8A and held for longer than 3 min until it dropped out of reg. down to 1.8A draw. It would still laze without rapid pulsing for about another 30 seconds then start to pulse. While in the host (a very cheap Home Depot host) it lasted even longer 4 to 5min... fun stuff thanks for looking.:beer: P.S. keep and eye out for final pics and readings through my awesome LaserBee USB.:wave:
