Carbon residue issues on Bamboo

I'm looking for some help. When burning unto Bamboo I deal with a lot of carbon residue that I need to clean off. It smears onto the wood and is a nightmare to clear. Someone suggested that I use masking or transfer tape, and that this will eliminate the carbon. But the laser is just a small craft etching laser: 1600 mW OSRAM 450 nm blue laser, so it won't even make a mark on general masking tape or burn through it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning this carbon off efficiently and cleanly? Right now I'm using Q-tips and it's starting to hurt my hands, and it's takes a long time too.

Thanks in advance.

As you may know, the two common colors of masking tape both reflect blue light. Try a color of masking tape that is absorbed by blue light. Failing that, you may have some success with coloring the masking tape yourself... perhaps a sharpie or a light dusting of black spray paint.
