Can I get some general info on this? IR DVD laser diode.

I extracted this laser diode from an old Sony DVD player. It has 4 diodes on the back. It is almost certainly IR, right? Wher could I get started with this?

Do you have the model number of the DVD player it came out of? Was it blue ray capable? I suppose if it was old, it might not be.

4 pins you mean? Are they in a circular
pattern? If so then it sounds like a
PHR-803T dual red/IR. They aren't very
powerful, maybe 50mW of each, red and IR.
If you REALLY want to have a play with it,
there are some pinouts around on the inter
"net" and the world wide "web". What do
you have to power it with?

I have one of those diodes. I got it from a Samsung DVD player...no blu ray just standard player.

No I haven't done anything with it. I tear down everything before disposal and kept the diode. I'm guessing it's a low power IR diode and not of much value.

What type of ciruit would I need to get something like this running, and how much power would you reccomend I start with? I have quality safety glasses, and have a lot of experience with soldering. Thanks!

I really couldn't tell you as I don't know what to use. Finding the pin out is first order. DTR I'm sure would know more about these and where to start or some of the other vets should be able to shed light on it.

Would starting with something like this be logical?

These are dual red/IR. The pinout is widely
available on the web. Does anyone do a
search anymore?

Yes, they work great if you learn how to use
them.

Yes, I was fairly sure it was a dual IR/Red, but finding the pinout seems to be quite difficult. I know which is grounded, but that is all I can find. Cold you provide a photo of the pinout it based on which pin is grounded?
