C-Mount 622nm

They're around $600 a pop. Talked with the company not too long ago.

The price isn't as bad as I expected (look at 488nm diodes), but definitely not what I can handle.

Plus they need to be run at 5C temperature in a non condensing environment

These get linked to every once in a while here on LPF. Like DashApple said they need to be ran cool. That orange beam is tempting though...maybe I need to sell off some more crap so I can afford one. :D I don't think anyone here has actually ordered one before.

Wasn't there a user experimenting with them like 6 years ago? I remember that I was researching them a while back and came across the forum.

Edit: Looks like they've been sold and traded here by users heruursciences and jnrpop.

Same diode was discussed a while back too. Looks like the price has actually risen.

heruursciences picked up a bunch of those at auction IIRC - Along with a whole stack of other rare/surplus stuff. I seem to recall they were a little shorter in wavelength than 622nm, but I guess I'm wrong. Same problem as we'd have now though - these need to run cold and of course you need to keep any moisture off too.

There are some 622nm diodes that apparently don't need the cooling, but they are more than twice the price and way less powerful. CNI actually didn't give me a required operating temp for their diode, but it may still need to be cooled.
